Internet Marketing - 3 Ways To Build Your List Faster
Posted on November 28, 2007 - Filed Under Internet
You have heard it a million times, right? The only guaranteed way to make money from the internet is by building an opt in list. We all know that having a responsive list of subscribers eager to hear from you with you latest product or affiliate recommendations is our ticket to success, but how do you make sure that visitors sign up to your list? Here are 3 ways that work for me.
- Subscription Booster #1.
Offer something for nothing. Sales promoters have been offering free gifts as an enticement to become a customer almost since the concept of consumerism began and it works. After all, everybody likes a free gift.
So why not offer your visitors something in return for giving you their email address. Yes, of course they will be getting your newsletter for nothing but you should be sweetening the pie with a sign on bonus. I use a 7 part ecourse that I created, but if you do not want to do that, simply find something in the public domain or PLR arena and repackage that as a download.
- Subscription Booster #2.
Use a hover ad, sign up box. You should at the very least have a static box on your home page, where people can subscribe to your ezine or newsletter and in the old days a lot of sites had pop ups or pop unders. These days of course, a lot of browsers have pop up blockers, so that is no longer a viable solution.
Far more effective now are hover ads. You have probably seen them. They look like pop ups, but they are not. They are actually embedded Java scripts, which cannot be blocked. They are often animated and come bouncing in from the side in an amusing way. People seem to really like these clever and unobtrusive sign on boxes and I have found that they get far more sign ups than the static box, which I still have as a backup.
- Subscription Booster #3.
Put your sign up box or hover ad on every page of your site. I missed this one for a long time and the only place where a visitor could subscribe was on my homepage. Later, when I extended the site and added some extra pages, I actually made a mistake.
I used the home page as a template for each new page and simply changed the content. Suddenly I noticed that my sign ups had increased by around 40% almost overnight. I was pleased but mystified and it took me a few days to realise that I had also, inadvertently copied the hover ad code with the template, so now, wherever you went you would be given the chance to subscribe.
As soon as I realised that, I made sure that every new content page now also has the hover ad and my subscriptions now consistently run 50% higher than they ever did before.
Before you despair of ever building an effective list, try these three boosters and see what a difference you can make to your sign ups.
