Make Money At Home Without Switching Careers

Posted on June 19, 2008 - Filed Under Home Based Business

Mothers and fathers alike wish they could spend more time with their children. We all know how important it is to be present in our kids’ lives when they are little, but it is also imperative that we put food on the table, uniforms on the little-leaguers, and books in their backpacks. As a result, many parents are reluctant to leave their current careers even though it means less time with their children. However, there are lots of ways to make money at home that do not require you to do a professional “180″ to succeed.

Telecommuting

Telecommuting is one of the most common ways that you can earn an income at home. Many employers will work with current employees to establish a telecommuting policy that makes both parties happy, while others actually prefer that their employees work from home to decrease the costs of running an office. Telecommuting enables you to spend more time interacting with your children while maintaining a presence in your chosen career.

Direct Sales

If you want to make a career change but wish to remain in your professional field, direct sales may be the avenue for you. Most direct sales businesses require start-up fees, so be sure that you do your research carefully before signing up to be certain that it is a product and a company that you can feel loyal to. Then, incorporate your own experience with products like the one you will be selling into your sales initiatives and promotional efforts. Your experience with similar products will give you credibility with your audience and will also enable you to make the emotional commitment needed to succeed in direct sales.

Diversify

Once you have decided to make money at home, it is important to diversify your options. Particularly when you are first getting started, having multiple streams of income will help you feel more confident about your efforts and also allow you to learn as you go. Even if you are already an expert in your field, you still will find yourself needing to adapt to unique aspects of working at home such as different scheduling, time constraints, and a potential increase in stress as you get used to having somewhat irregular paychecks.

In the beginning, try several different approaches. For example, you may decide to telecommute part-time at your old job while starting up a direct sales business or working as a freelancer in your spare time. Knowing that you have options will help you focus and also keep you motivated as you begin your new and exciting career.
