Do you know what a Pregnancy Calendar is?
Well just in case you don’t, it’s just a record of all the important events and changes that affect both you and your baby!
A Pregnancy calendar is useful, because it allows you and your partner to plan for the future. You can use the pregnancy calendar to work out what should happen when. It is very good for your planning of the pregnancy, that you know, when to expect changes of both your body and your baby during the pregnancy.
It’s very easy to observe changes in a pregnant woman, because she shows many of them externally, however it is much more difficult to observe any changes in the baby.
Every pregnancy calendar is different, however there are some similarities in all of them. You can use these dates to work out and plan for the future:
- During weeks 1 – 4 conception takes place, and this is where the egg is fertilized by the man’s sperm.
- During weeks 5-8 the babies heart has already started beating, the baby has arms and has started developing legs.
- During weeks 9-12 the baby will start to move around, however because the baby is so small you probably won’t feel it for some time yet!
- During weeks 13-16 you will probably start to feel the baby moving around. It is also normally possible for doctors to determine the gender of the baby at this stage. Your baby can even suck its thumb at this stage!
- During weeks 17-20 the organs are developing, and the doctor can be more certain, when identifying the sex of the baby. There is a fine layer of hair that protects your baby.
- During weeks 21-24 fat deposits build up on the baby’s body, so that they can cope with any temperature changes both before and after birth.
- During weeks 24-28 your baby starts to hear noises from the outside world, however they’re probably muffled noises! The baby starts to move less because it is feeling restricted.
- During weeks 29-32 a baby’s eyes are able to move, the head is growing quite quickly in size. By week 32 all of the internal organs are fully developed, with the exception of the lungs.
- During weeks 33-36 your baby is now able to blink his eyes!
- During weeks 37-40 your baby’s lungs get ready for breathing for themselves. You could give birth any time now.
If you’re pregnant, then it’s a great idea to write a pregnancy calendar, because it can be exciting for you and your partner to read, what exactly is happening to your baby. There is no reason, that a pregnancy calendar has to be complicated, you can design it any way you like. A pregnancy calendar is the perfect way to keep an eye on your baby’s progress.
Whatever you do though, don’t throw the pregnancy calendar away. It’s a really nice thing to keep, why not give it to your child when they grow up?
